Processing Time and Shipping

When will my order ship?

Please see the "shipping info" tab for current production times.

How long will shipping take?

Shipping transit time within the US typically takes about 3-7 days depending on your location. Please note, this is after the production time, which can be found on the "shipping info" tab.

USPS quotes about a month for transit time. Although tracking is included, it is not uncommon for mail services in other countries to stop updating tracking info once your package has left the US. If more than a month has passed and your order still has not arrived, please email me at 

Holidays, extreme weather, and other unforeseeable events can impact shipping times.

Can I get my order faster?

I currently do not offer Rush Orders, but please contact me if you need your tag by a certain date and I will see if I can accommodate. 

My order shipped but hasn't moved, what can I do?

Delays and lost shipments are an unfortunate risk when purchasing products online. If your order hasn't moved for 7 days or more, please email me so I can issue a lost mail form. 

I paid for upgraded shipping but my order hasn't shipped yet.

Shipping upgrades apply to the transit time of your order and not the turnover rate. I finish orders in the order they come in.

Returns, Replacements, and Cancellations

I no longer want/need my order. What can I do?

For any custom items (anything stamped with personalizations, or custom fit) you can cancel your order anytime as long as your item(s) haven't been completed. Due to the custom nature of most of the products in my store, they cannot be resold and therefore no refund can be given if they have been made. 

I made a mistake on my order, but my order hasn't shipped yet.

Please email me asap with the correction at If for some reason I miss your email but you sent it before your order has shipped, it will be replaced at no additional charge. 

I made a mistake on my order, and my order has shipped.

Don't worry, we all make mistakes sometimes! For dog tags, I will remake your tag for a $3 "reprint fee" plus shipping costs. For collars, you can ship the collar back to me and I will make you a new collar for a $5 fee plus shipping - OR - you can keep the collar and I will offer a 25% discount off of a second collar order.

There is a mistake on my order but I entered everything correctly.

As I said before, we all make mistakes - including me! If I have made an error in the design, or any of the information, material, or sizing is incorrect due to a mistake on my part, I will replace it at no charge to you. 

I got my order but it didn't turn out how I was hoping.

I always encourage customers to contact me or include specific details about their orders whenever possible. Although I always try to match my products to the display designs, these are handmade items and no two items will be identical. Sometimes I need to make placement adjustments due to the requested customizations. Occasionally customers make requests that aren't feasible with the given space and materials and I need to change things. That being said, I want to provide my customers with products that live up to their expectations. If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, please let me know and we will work together to fix any issues. Please keep in mind that depending on the item, a reprint or restocking fee may apply.

Ordering and Product Details

Can you stamp information on the back of my tag?

Absolutely! If you choose to add information like a phone number to your tag, it will be stamped on the back unless the selected tag design features contact info on the front. 

What comes with my tag?

Each tag is shipped with a split ring (stainless steel or brass) to attach your new tag to your pet's collar. Sizes and metals may vary based on availability from suppliers.

Can I see a proof of my tag?

All Canine Habits tags are hand-stamped, and nothing is designed on a computer so I cannot provide digital proofs. I can email photos of your finished tag upon request, but please keep in mind that for small design changes or alterations a "reprint" fee may apply. If a mistake is made on my end (something spelled wrong, wrong tag type, wrong design, etc) I will fix or replace it for no extra charge.

How long will my tag last?

It's impossible to know for sure how long a dog tag will last because dogs wear out their gear at different rates. I have had customers send me photos of their 5-year-old tags that look barely a couple months old. I've also seen 6-month-old tags that look like they've been run over by a lawnmower from the tag constantly hitting the hardware on the collar. 

It's important to note that the tag itself will likely far outlast the coloring that is used to darken the stamped impressions. No ink is indestructible, and longevity will typically depend on a number of factors:

  • if the tag is exposed to water
  • your pet shakes or scratches their neck a lot
  • the tag is chewed or licked
  • your pet wears multiple tags
  • your pet is extremely active

The most common issue with pet tags is the tag becoming lost when the connector gets worn out. It's a good idea to check your tags regularly to make sure the rings are not getting stretched out. NEVER clip your pet's leash to the split rings.
